Functional barrier coatings are used extensively on packaging materials as well as those used for serving and presenting food, such as take-out boxes and paper plates. These coatings resist penetration by oil and grease, help maintain package integrity, and protect the consumer from unwanted stains. Barrier coatings can be for direct and indirect food contact, and may require FDA or BfR compliance. Food packaging barrier coatings can also help extend shelf life.
Rovene® 6114 is a low glass transition temperature, acrylic polymer emulsion with improved oil & grease resistance. It is a very soft film forming vehicle that provides good gloss, excellent water and rub resistance, and non-skid properties for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes.
Tykote 6160 is a flexible acrylic emulsion designed to provide a good balance of Cobb resistance, OGR, and MVTR properties from coatings made with it.

Tykote 6152 is a hard film forming styrene-acrylic emulsion designed for oil and grease resistant barrier coatings. This product also provides excellent water and blocking resistance in barrier coating compounds.
Tykote 1004 is a low surfactant styrene-butadiene emulsion polymer designed as a base resin for functional coatings. Tykote 1004 can be used to compound functional coatings exhibiting superior water, water vapor, oil and grease repellency.
Tykote® 1014 is a low surfactant containing copolymer which can be used to compound functional coatings exhibiting superior water, water vapor, oil and grease repellency.
Tykote 1019 is a carboxylated styrene-butadiene emulsion that has a firm hand with excellent film strength properties. It is intended for use as a base polymer in the formulation of barrier coatings for paper and paperboard packaging.
