Overprint Varnishes

overprint-varnishesApplication Description

Overprint varnishes (OPV) need good film-forming properties along with block resistance and a variety of other resistances. Styrene acrylic RSE polymers are often a best choice when formulating an OPV. For example, these emulsion polymers can be formulated into a non-skid or high gloss OPV.

Products

ACRYLIC EMULSION

  • Polymer
  • Solids (%)
  • Viscosity (cps)
  • Tg (°C)
  • Rovene® 6114
  • 50.5 - 52.5
  • 1000 - 4000
  • -45
  • Rovene® 6114 is a low glass transition temperature, acrylic polymer emulsion with improved oil & grease resistance. It is a very soft film forming vehicle that provides good gloss, excellent water and rub resistance, and non-skid properties for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes.

STYRENE ACRYLIC EMULSION

  • Polymer
  • Solids (%)
  • Viscosity (cps)
  • Tg (°C)
  • Rovene® 6107
  • 43.0 - 46.0
  • 500 - 2000
  • Rovene 6107 is a very hard, resin supported emulsion but has a minimum film forming temperature below 20°C that is designed to be used as a letdown vehicle in inks and overprint varnishes for paper and paperboard substrates.

  • Rovene® 6104
  • 47.5 - 49.5
  • 500 - 1200
  • -45
  • Rovene 6104 is a very soft, film forming vehicle that provides good water and rub resistance for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes.

  • Rovene® 6103
  • 47.0 - 49.0
  • 500 - 1500
  • -16
  • Rovene 6103 is a styrene-acrylic resin supported emulsion can be used as the film forming component in overprint varnish formulations or as the sole vehicle for inks and overprint varnishes.

  • Rovene® 6112
  • 46.0 - 48.0
  • 1000 max
  • +20
  • Rovene 6112 is a hard, film forming, low glycol and VOC vehicle with a moderately low glass transition temperature for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes.

  • Rovene® 6106
  • 49.5 - 51.5
  • 300 max
  • +100
  • Rovene 6106 is a low viscosity but high solids letdown emulsion for paper and paper board substrates.

  • Rovene® 6106V
  • 49.5 - 51.5
  • 0 - 2000
  • +100
  • Rovene® 6106V is a high viscosity, high solids
letdown emulsion for paper and paper board
    substrates.
  • Rovene® 6111
  • 47.0 - 50.0
  • 400 - 1200
  • +104
  • Rovene 6111 is a low glycol and low VOC styrene-acrylic resin supported emulsion. It is a general purpose, hard, non-film forming emulsion for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes.

  • Rovene® 6115
  • 48.0 - 50.0
  • 1000 max
  • +105
  • Rovene 6115 is a styrene-acrylic resin supported emulsion. Rovene 6115 is hard, non-film forming vehicle that is neutralized with sodium hydroxide for flexographic and gravure inks and overprint varnishes primarily for use on paper and paperboard substrates.

STYRENE ACRYLIC RESIN

  • Polymer
  • Solids (%)
  • Viscosity (cps)
  • Tg (°C)
  • Rovene® 6201
  • 98.0 - 99.0
  • +120
  • Rovene 6201 is an alkali soluble styrene-acrylic resin with a mid-range molecular weight for overprint varnishes, water based inks and pigment dispersions

  • Rovene® 6204
  • 33.0 - 35.0
  • 3000 max
  • +120
  • Rovene 6204 is a 34% solids solution version of Rovene 6201 styrene-acrylic resin neutralized with ammonia hydroxide. It can be used as a pigment dispersant resin and as a modifying additive in inks or overprint varnishes.
