Silicate paints are mostly used for mineral as well as porous substrates. Due to the polymers good adhesion on porous substrates, it is likely used for renovation of old facades especially heritage-protected buildings. Due to the addition of sodium silicate (waterglass) the paint is hydrophobic but at the same time has a high rate of diffusion so that it is possible to create a breathable coating. Furthermore, silicate paints can be used for high humidity areas like bathrooms.
