Carpet Backcoatings

polymers_commercial_carpet

Back coatings for carpet applications influence a number of important physical properties of the carpet. The coating is designed to keep the tufts or loops from pulling out of the face. Back coatings also adhere the secondary backing to help provide additional dimensional stability. The latex used as the binder for the back coating formulations must be able to accept high filler loadings and also be able to entrain air to help control coat weight during application. Additionally the latex needs to penetrate the fiber bundle and help keep the fibers in place to enhance abrasion resistance.

At MCP, we build styrene butadiene and styrene acrylic emulsion polymers to meet the demanding application needs of carpet manufacturers. MCP line of low VOC emulsion polymers are designed for superior wet and dry strength, high filler acceptance and ease of application. MCP products are used both in residential applications including solution dye, and commercial applications where superior tuft bind and water resistance are critical.
