2021 continues to be a challenging year, and new issues seem to arise on a weekly basis. The most recent development is an almost unprecedented increase in the cost of butadiene. This has had a direct impact on the cost of styrene butadiene polymers despite styrene slowly coming down from peak highs earlier this summer. Effective September 1st, 2021, MCP will be implementing a $0.05 / lb butadiene surcharge on all butadiene containing polymers.
