Quality Control (QC) Technician 

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

Responsible for performing quality control tests on product samples by following established procedures, ensuring that the finished products are within the formulated specifications.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilites (others may be assigned):

  • Conducts tests according to established proceduresImprove and implement test methods to evaluate performance requirements
    • Solids
    • Viscosity
    • pH
    • Grit
    • Particle size
    • Film tests
    • Styrene butadiene ratio checks
    • Surface tension
    • Biological tests
    • Others as requested or required
  • Maintains accurate records of tests on worksheets and computer database
  • Perform weekly calibration checks on lab instruments and records data
  • Perform clerical tasks as required to release shipments to customers
  • Stores retains samples in an organized manner
  • Ability to interpret test results
  • Primary contact with drivers picking up or dropping trailers; including creation and distribution of required paperwork
  • Follows QC and Plant safety rules and regulations; performs all tasks and duties in a safe manner
  • Maintains safe work area by submitting work orders to address any issues
  • Maintains Red Cross First Aid Certification
  • Maintains work area in a neat, clean and organized condition; housekeeping to include trash removal and stock supplies as required
  • Mandatory overtime as needed based upon business needs, including vacation coverage
  • Other work as assigned by the Quality Manager or Shift Supervisor
  • Prepares technical reports as needed
  • Can identify opportunities to drive improvements
  • Interface with new and/or existing customers

Relationships With Others' Jobs:

    • Interact closely with Shift Supervisor and other Plant personnel
    • Interaction with Company Engineers, Customer Service, Logistics and Sales
    • Interact with Drivers

  • Accurate and timely test results
  • Professional attitude and demeanor when interacting with employees and visitors
  • Organized and clean work area

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Be able to work independently and in a team
  • Able to multi task and be flexible (time management)
  • Ability to interpret test results
  • Demonstrates an ability to identify, analyze and solve problems
  • Able to successfully prioritize when faced with requests, demands and deadlines
  • Computer skills (Word & Excel, Outlook)
  • 3+ years of prior lab testing experience
  • Prefer a 2yr/4yr Chemistry degree
  • Prefer ASQ Certification
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral); customer oriented
  • Proficiency in basic math

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to safely handle or manipulate up to 50 lbs (to change out large gas cylinders)
  • Be able to wear all required PPE
  • Be able to climb stairs/ladders
  • Able to work outside in heat/cold
  • Be able to bend, squat, lift arms overhead
  • Be able to sit at a desk for computer work
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time during testing
  • 12 hr shifts on a 2/2/3 schedule
