Compliance and Safety Manager

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local ordinances/laws regarding environmental standards on air and water pollution, waste disposal and chemical releases, as well as the health and safety of workers. Deals with regulatory agencies, develops compliance strategies, directs related training efforts and conducts audits of company facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and ordinances. Works with all employees to instill a positive, safe environment, free from injury or incidents.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Monitors and applies new safety, health and environmental regulations to MCP as needed
  • Directs company Safety & Health Team
  • Maintains NC STAR program
  • Company contact for all regulatory agencies
  • Develops strategies to deal with any Safety, Health or Environmental work process changes
  • Directs the Process Hazard Review Committee and Administrator of the PSM Program
  • Analyzes and evaluates the SHE performance to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Acts as Hazardous Waste Emergency Coordinator
  • Responsible for Safety/Environmental budget
  • Responsible for all regulatory record keeping and reporting to all required agencies, including but not limited to permits, logs and directives
  • Conducts internal compliance audits; company representative for external audits
  • Haz-com and PPE program
  • Conducts all required training for affected employees; coaches and trains all employees on SHE issues including night shifts
  • Contractor safety
  • Coordinates all IH testing
  • Actively participates in local LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee)
  • Security and alarm system

  • Meet all deadlines as required by regulatory agencies
  • Maintain MCP’s high standards of compliance
  • Effectively address and report all incidents

Skills/Qualifications:

  • S. in Engineering/Technical or Safety Related degree
  • 5 years’ experience in the SHE field, preferably working with chemicals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train
  • Detail oriented / multi-tasker / organized
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • High credibility/integrity
  • Flexibility to work with all production shifts
  • Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to wear all required PPE
  • Walk through all facilities / stairs / ladders; not afraid of heights
  • Work outside in all seasons
  • Sit at a desk / computer work

Travel:

  • Minimal / to different local MCP locations
  • For training purposes or attend regional safety meetings

  • Plant Manager
