Maintenance Mechanic

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

Keeps plant machinery and mechanical equipment in good repair; Examines machines to diagnose trouble, dismantles machines, replace defective parts, reassembles machines and makes necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation; May occasionally make replacement parts; perform intermediate troubleshooting, work with limited technical guidance; Perform PM work as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (others may be assigned):

  • General maintenance skills to maintain plant equipment;
  • Maintains/installs/repairs plant equipment, particularly pumps, piping, compressors and motors;
  • Maintains/repairs buildings and auxiliaries, including carpentry and painting;
  • “On-call” when needed;
  • Performs all work within safety guidelines and regulations;
  • Deal with hazardous waste as necessary, using appropriate disposal methods;

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS’ JOBS

  • Interact with co-workers (team environment)
  • Interact with Plant Management including Supervisors

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Accurate work to keep plant in production

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years experience in manufacturing maintenance (chemical a plus)
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance procedures and methods
  • Working knowledge of pumps, gear reducers, electric motors and lubrication methods, utility equipment, boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers and vaccum pumps. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work outside
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Climb ladders/stairs
  • Able to bend, crawl, stoop
  • Wear all required PPE, including fall protection
  • Not afraid of heights or confined spaces
  • Push/pull up to 50 lbs
  • Able to drive a forklift

TRAVEL: Minimal (possibly to other company locations located within the Charlotte area)

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Engineer/Supervisor

SCHEDULE: Must be able to work overtime, weekends and ability to be on call.
