R&D Synthesis Chemist

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

The R&D Synthesis Chemist is responsible for formulation and design of new acrylic based latexes for markets/applications specified; develops and implements recipes to meet requirements for new product development; improve or suggest new laboratory equipment as needed to carry out projects. Collaborates with technical, marketing, customer service and operations support teams for the achievement of customer satisfaction, revenue generation and long term goals in line with the company’s vision and values.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilites (others may be assigned):

  • Design and run recipes for assigned projects for synthesis in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Improve current and implement new test methods to evaluate performance requirements;
  • Prepare technical reports;
  • Identify opportunities to drive improvements;
  • Interface with existing and/or new customers;
  • Assists R&D Manager and R&D Director as needed;
  • Communicate effectively with all departments;
  • Support company goals and objectives.

Relationships With Others' Jobs:

  • Establish and maintain effective team relationships with all support departments as needed;
  • Maintains professional internal and external relationships.

Accountability:

The R&D Synthesis Chemist is accountable for design and formulation of new acrylic latexes in a timely and efficient manner that meets our customer’s needs and is line with the company’s goals.


Skills/Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemistry or similar technical degree or equivalent years of experience in emulsions polymerization;
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial chemistry in a related field;
  • Ability to work in teams or individually as needed by project;
  • Demonstrated competencies in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with other functional areas to build trusted relationships;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi task;
  • Self-starter driven to be results oriented;
  • Experience in exercising judgment within generally defined practices;
  • Ability to learn from others, including co-workers and customers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit at a desk;
  • Must be able to operate a computer;
  • Must be able to work in a lab;
  • Able to walk through plant: outside/stairs;
  • Able to use all PPE appropriately;
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations. 

Travel

  • Between local facilities (in Charlotte);
  • Minimal outside local area

  • R&D Manager;
  • R&D Director.
